REVIEW: L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Collection

Hi Sparklies, a while back I received a package from Influenster to review the L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Collection. With this particular range, Ultra-Even routine, it is specially formulated to provide your skin with a more even and brighter tone. Although I didn't have high expectations, I'm not surprised to say, it once again was not suitable for me. Find out why...

1) L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Collection: Ultra-Even Scrub

is the Ultra-Even Scrub with the main purpose to remove impurities and dead cells leaving skin clean and smooth. The idea is that the skin will be refreshed and that it would appear to be more even, brightened meanwhile pores would look reduced. In the words of L'Oréal: 1) Cleanses 2) Exfoliates 3) Evens skin tone 4) Illuminates 5) Smoothes
For me, I have dry skin, the cleanser was actually a bit strong for me. I feel that my skin was very tight and dry after the cleansing. I feel that my natural oils were stripped in its entirety. The scent isn't strong and the exfoliation factor is good. However, I absolutely dislike the idea of microbeads being used. If you want to know what microbeads does to our environment (they are awful!!), see here for a very sciencey report or here for layman's term report. So, I stopped using it already as soon as I discovered its terrible effects for our marines habitats.  I also do not recommend you buying/trying it out.

2) L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Collection: Ultra-Even Toner

The claims are very straight forward for this product, so I'll simply copy from what it says on the bottle: 1) Tones 2) Removes Impurities 3) Evens Skin Tone 4) Illuminates 5) Smoothes
On the bottle it says it's for "Normal Skin" so I'm almost pretty sure this won't work for me because I have Dry/Dehydrated Skin. The smell was heavy in fragrance and you can also smell the alcohol. I applied using a cotton pad I do see some dead skin that was being picked up however, I also feel a tiny sense of irritation (almost like a burn).  I don't see that it evens skin tone/illuminate/smooth. My face was left dry and tight.  I don't think this works for me at all - maybe just for the cleaning purpose however it's still too harsh.

3) L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Collection Ultra-Even Lotion

Usually I find, even if skin care products containing SPF fails my face, I would use it on my arms and legs so I don't get the regret feeling buying them. That's why even though I also don't recommend this product, I did find good use for it. The product moisturizes and was much easier to spread and be absorbed by my skin. However my skin was dry within an hour, and when I reapplied, I find it creating a lot of residue on my skin. It's also rather sticky after applying so I didn't feel comfortable with it.

4) L'Oreal Paris Hydra-Total 5 Collection Ultra-Even Moisturizer

The claims for this product is to 1) Moisturize 2) Reduces Dark Spots 3) Evens Skin Tone 4) Illuminates 5) Smoothes. Once again, I believe it's because it's not made for Dry/Dehydrated skin, I don't think the results were suited for me. Yes, I feel that it moisturizes, illuminates and smoothes. I don't believe it did anything for reducing dark spots or evening out skin tone. For me, I also started having white heads with this problem so I think it's a bit too greasy for my skin. This moisturizer is thicker and takes some times to spread. I don't find it too easy to be absorbed, and a little bit goes a long way.

Unfortunately, I didn't find this collection/line of products suitable for my skin. At this rate, I don't think I'll be trying L'Oreal's skin care line until I find products made with Hyaluronic Acid and with less silicone by-products.
